The F-1 High School Program allows international students from all over the world to experience high school in the United States while living with a host family or staying at their school dormitory.
The American high school educational system comprises four grades of study: freshman (9th grade), sophomore (10th grade), junior (11th grade) and senior (12th grade).
Students will be placed in the appropriate grade upon arrival, according to their school academic history.
Program Details
ExchangeMate International Education offers placement in public and private day schools.
Students attending public schools may study in the USA for a maximum of 1 academic year.
Students apply directly to a specific city and school district and may choose up to 3 schools within that district. Private day school students may study in the USA for multiple years until they graduate. With this option, students apply directly to the specific school they are interested in attending.
Several public schools and all private day schools allow international students to graduate and receive an American high school diploma, which will help them gain acceptance in an American college or university of their choice.
Acceptance & Visa
Once acceptance into the program has been granted, the school district will issue a Form I-20.
Students must bring the Form I-20 along with personal and financial documents to the American Consulate/Embassy in their home countries in order to apply for the F-1 visa.
Welcome Week Orientation & Activities
All students are required to arrive a few days before the official school start date in order to attend ExchangeMate USA welcome week orientation and activities in Orlando, FL. Students will stay for 3 days (2 nights) at a hotel in Orlando where they will attend arrival orientation and join ExchangeMate USA staff and coordinators in local activities, including a visit to Universal’s Islands of Adventure™ theme park.
Sports Activities
American schools offer a wide variety of sports and other extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to join sports teams, music groups, social clubs, theater, and any other activities after school. This is a great way to socialize and make friends while improving your English!
Insurance
All international students are required to have full insurance coverage while in the program. ExchangeMate USA may offer comprehensive health insurance upon request. Students must also have all vaccines required by the state where they are going to attend school.

High School Program
Admission Requirements
To be part of our High School Programs, you have to:
- Must be between 14 and 18 years old.
- Have an intermediate level of English.
- Hold and maintain a passing grade point average.
- Provide academic transcripts of the last 3 years, including current year.
- Have not graduated from high school in their home country.

- High School Placement in selected schools
- Public High School Program and Private Day Schools – CSIET certified Homestay in single room, with breakfast and dinner during the week and all three meals on weekends and holidays / Boarding Schools – dormitory accommodation in shared room with all meals included

- Arrival orientation at the final destination conducted by the Local Coordinator

Not Included on this program
- SEVIS, Visa, Flights, and Passport fees
- Compulsory physical, TB tests and other required immunizations on arrival
- Public transportation monthly pass
- School lunches & School uniform (if required)
- Apostille of school transcripts
- Book fees, testing fees, graduation fee and any other additional school fees and supplies
- Extra-curricular activities and optional group activities and trips
- Pocket money and personal expenses
- Medical & Liability Insurance – The cost of insurance is not included in the program fees. For Public Schools our insurance is mandatory, for Private and Boarding Schools students may be required to purchase the school insurance or in some cases the ExchangeMate insurance.
